So this just came out.
What are your opinions on it? Have you watched much of zombie Simpsons (which means the current state of the show you uncultured fucking swine)?
I think you should at least pick an episode from season 20-onward and try it out. I did so, while counting how many times I
1. Laughed
2. Chuckled
3. Smiled
Coincidentally, the number coincide with the amount of times I did of each. The episode was "What Animated Women Want". Its about Marge being unhappy about their marriage and homer does a 6 year old to-do list. One of the items was to "clean the treehouse" or something to that accord. Homer looks out the window and sees the treehouse utterly destroyed from Milhouse and Bart fighting in an unrelated incident. Homer sees this, nods twice and smiles while crossing the item off the list. The only laugh I had in the episode.
The episode felt like they needed to rush in as many jokes as possible, without the chance of any voice actor taking a breath or having any silence at all. It all felt so forced. The episode was 3/10 for me.
But if you can't give a shit about this, what is your favorite season? Episode? Gag? Character?

Favourite season: 3, honourable mention to season 4, 6 and 7
Favourite episode: that's a hard one, I guess I don't have one favourite. The monorail episode, who shot Mr Burns 1 and 2, a fish named Selma (love that Troy McClure) and all of them involving Sideshow Bob after he framed Krusty come to mind. The Lemon of Troy with the shellbyville doppelgangers is fantastic. The episode with Lisa discovering the horrible truth about Jebidiah Springfield (more like Hans Sprungfeld amirite?), the list goes on really. So many classics that I just love and grew up watching as they came out new every week. I can't pinpoint a favourite, I'm too much of a fan I guess.
Edit: can't forget about the stonecutters or homers new bond villain boss either
Favourite gag: this may sound dumb, but it's the use of "meh" to shrug off something. I use it all the time. This show heavily influenced my sense of humour and even my mannerisms, this being one of them. Also the ridiculous Flintstones opener for the monorail episode. That shit is hilarious. Oh and when stuff explodes or catches fire for no reason. Like when Chief Quimby is undercover wearing the duff beer mug costume. He's knocked over, sent rolling down a hill, eventually bumping into a tree and he explodes. Or Hans Moleman driving a house down the freeway being run off the road by Homer and it bursts into flames smoothly driving down an embankment. Or the milk truck exploding. That's funny.
Favourite character is Homer, with Sideshow Bob, Troy Maclure and Lionel Hutz being up there.
I haven't watched much of the Simpsons passed probably season 15? But I was a die hard fan in the 90's, watching 2 to 4 episodes almost every day on tv. I've seen some new episodes, some wwere bad but others were surprisingly funny. It's obviously not the same as it was 20+ years ago, it'd be ridiculous if it could sustain that level of quality. But as long as there are people still enjoying the new episodes they should make them.
Those are my thoughts anyway. The Simpsons is still my favourite tv show of all time.

In response to the second bolded sentence, they don't try much anymore.
Before, they used a lot of pop culture references and celebrity appearances. Now it's literally just pop culture(just pop culture, with no jokes)with celebrities being the main focus of the episode they're in.

I've been a member of UK Simpsons II on facebook for a while now, pretty cool group, all about memes relating to 90s Simpsons moments like Steamed Hams etc.
Haha look! That foreign secretary's got bosoms!

it always played twice a day on the weekdays when I was a kid
6-7 was the hour block of the simpson, on the CW44 channel before it was CW44
I fucking loved it as a kid but understood practically no jokes
i forget they even exist still. my favorite episodes as a kid were always the treehouse of horror ones
