https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ste...board-game
So some nerds have a kickstarter for a Dark Souls Board Game.
Solo (1 player) or Co op (2-4), "fast set up, long reveal" gameplay in terms of the exploration. Same basic Souls rules apply: if you die, you go back to the bonfire, dropping your shit. Resting at bonfires will reset the enemies already killed. You can level up in the game, equip weapons and armor, even rings.
Combat is based on positioning and stamina management. Stamina is tied to your health, so there's a definite risk in spending too much stamina to attack, and leaving yourself open to get killed.
Bosses have attacks that are shuffled once, and are repeated in order as long as it's above half health. This means that after a full cycle of attacks, if you were paying attention you can anticipate its next move, and get into a safe area, or set up for where it will be vulnerable. After it takes over half of its health, it adds a new card to it's attack deck, and then it's shuffled. This makes the latter half of the boss fight chaotic and a lot more difficult.
Here's an example of a boss fight:
Quick impressions:
- The figurines look pretty awesome. I kind of hope they stay that matte color, it would be neat to be able to paint them.
- Since it's got a shit ton of backers already, there's lots stretch goals unlocked and it looks like this game will be pretty huge and varied.
- looks like you can play by yourself. there's no real "DM" since enemy movement is tied to the aggro token and explained on the attack cards.
- NO I DIDN'T CONTRIBUTE $750

it saves on production costs, and the pvc is different colors depending on if it's an enemy or a player character. it makes sense really.
plus, theres those people who love paining miniatures like warhammer n' shit who will probably love to paint these
