Current progress in the Mosul Offensive. Orange and dark pink are newly acquired territory since the offensive's beginning. Yellow are the kurds, pink are Iraq and black are ISIS.

The Iraqi and Kurdish military so far have been widely successful against their ISIS counterparts.

I heard this battle could take weeks or months

That just seems so crazy long for an offensive

Currently they're making incredible gains, just because it's the outer-city limits. Once they hit the city proper, stuff will get pretty messy. There is HEAVY use of vehicle-based IEDs that ISIS have been using in the battle these past couple of days. Those are intimidating, simply because of the amount of damage one person could do. Since the offensive, there has been a lot of casualties already from them. Not only that, ISIS probably has booby trapped a majority of the city. It's going to be a real slog fest for the Iraqis and Kurds, but they have no choice but to take the city. There is no backing down.

Since they're being helped by factions from Hezbolla I find it pretty funny the US is helping

Not only that, Iraq is outright refusing corridors for civilians after the US demanded it.

Im surprised we are still helping after its obvious we're not making many friends.

infighting between militant groups in the FSA while another just ups and leaves the area it was defending

I am seriously surprised that they have lasted this long

ISIL is getting its shit kicked in by the Syrian government, the fsa, the kurds, turkey, iran, iraq, egypt and many other groups, losing a good 40% of their territory in less then a year

So yeah they're winning
