idk ben if both games are similar but one executes the same thing in a better way, yah it's subjective but if the vast majority of people's subjective opinions line up, then that subjectiveness gains weight
I tried playing f3 once and I gave up a couple hours in. I will complain about it knowing well that these characteristics are actually what fallout was about but anywho:
- I pirated it. that's a big issue because I just got the game as is and I had no idea of what I was getting into. I'm saying this because one of the reasons for my frustration, as it turns out, is that I went straight for some advanced DLC, and I had no idea what was going on.
- other than that, the main thing that annoys me about fallout is the constant breaks in action. in my mind I was playing an fps, or at least an fps-like game. everytime the game forced me out of that gameplay it was incredibly annoying. some egregious examples were:
--- "taking over" my controls to stare at a character that interrupted me to talk
--- VATs
--- aiming at something and shooting at the moon instead, because I didn't want VATs
--- walls of "mandatory" text
VATs made sense to me when playing Fallout 2. I honestly don't get the appeal of choosing where the bullet is likely to hit rather than aiming it yourself in a first-person game. as for the walls of text, I wouldn't have a problem with them normally but I remember being annoyed by how lengthy the reading times in the game were, which again plays against the fact that I'm piloting a first-person thing.
with the added problems off me not enjoying the asthetic at all and the controls being meh, I just didn''t like fallout 3 and I can't be bothered to play nv or f4 instead because I see that those mechanics are still there, so it's not the game for me
