I've only ever done ds1 runs with smaller dex weapons because that's just how. Only exception is the black knight halberd because you can get it to max level crazy early in the game and then just melt everything. Honestly it looks like you're doing really well especially for a first playthrough. How much time did you put in until now? I took 73 hours I think.
