first and foremost, people say he won because trump is a meme and its funny to say he did. thats kind of the bottom line
but really- the more nuanced reason why people may say he won is that, he didn't falter whatsoever from his character/role. he was Trump. who is hillary? what does she say, exactly? what does she even believe? if you are tuning into the Hillary Show, you see something mediocre and the characters are really not written coherently. but, trump is trump. the people willing to see where he actually fails to be a good candidate? they arent his supporters, by design. there are many, many reluctant hillary voters- either out of fear of trump, or out of fear of being called sexist, or not being quite convinced that she's awful but knowing there is something fishy going on, or whatever. the margin of republicans that are reluctant trump supporters is very small compared to so, so many "ah well, she's good enough" democrats
