So I've been watching some bodycam footage of officers making arrests / killing people. I have a question. Do gun handling courses teach you how to present yourself to a cop, should it come to that?

I mean it might solve a lot of misunderstandings if there was like a "standard procedure" when you are carrying a legal weapon. Such as: cop pulls you over, you immediatly announce "I am carrying a legal weapon" or something, officer takes it from you, potential scare avoided. Is this a thing?

You are supposed to roll down your window, keep both your hands on the steering wheel unless told otherwise to do so, tell or interrupt the officer immediately and inform them that you have a gun in the car, where it is, and that you have a licence for it. Then, tell him/her that you will provide it with the licence and registration if the officer wants to. Always best to keep the wallet away from where the gun is and to always calmly reach for it.

Another question: can the officer aprehend your weapon while he checks your license/registration etc? In an open carry state, for example.
