i dont know how it works with direct financing, but lobbying is so much a part of EU governance that is actually in law, as an integral part of policy making - eu parliament members must listen to lobbyists

the idea is embracing the devil rather than pretending it doesn't exist, and in turn allowing NGO's and non-profit orgs / interest groups to reach the parliament. obviously what this also means is that multinationals are all oveer the lobbying biz
