imo its not in a bad taste, its a popular expression. saying the phrase isnt like rooted in some intolerent beliefs like "PICK THE COTTON" or like that idk i couldnt think of one
it pretty much self acknowledges that witch hunts were bad thing on false grounds.
someone just creatively found a victim in an expression that does not oppress people.
