SHOULD we understand what General E. Lee fought the Union for? Not just that he DID but WHY?

and as an opinion:
i think there's nothing wrong with having a Civil War museum and these statues in it.
the whole point of charlottesville was that these memorials in public spaces intimidate people of color with family history in slavery & are ill reminders and perpetrators of supremacy. now the conversation is LITERALLY becoming about erasing history via Niki's side
