now that im rereading what i wrote i realize "both sides"

right, people who aren't american or i guess russian? kinda feel like it was a world war so there were the allies and the axis, everyone played a part (except portugal lmao)

I mean sure you can forget the french resistance and the UK and Australia but should you really? probably not

Most people tend to forget China was even in the war despite their massive involvement.

People discuss the French Resistance, but it was nowhere near the magnitude of those Serbians and forgotten.

People think the USSR won the war, people think the USA won the war.

Shouldn't be discussing WHO but WHAT won the war.

Let's start at the time period where US involvement started. In 1941-42 the supplies from the USA to the USSR was minimal. But after the crushing defeat from Operation Barborossa and the initial counter-offensives that followed, the soviets were exhausting a majority of these factors. The USSR was putting in a lot of effort to pump out as much munitions as possible, which made feeding a bit hard, so the US helped immensely by supplying a shit ton of food. To deliver these resources, they needed plenty of horses, trucks and cars to deliver them to the troops. Officers is something the USSR was just recovering from, since the great purge killed off practically every good officer the country had, but no records of US help in this area. Manpower was something they had trouble with in the first year as well, since most of their standing army got completely destroyed. But again, no US involvement in that area. Soviets barely had a navy, which was swiftly taken care of by the Germans. The airforce was destroyed almost completely within the first year as well. Since the USA had the second best Navy in the world, they could transport all these supplies to help with every problem the USSR faced.
 
This is just me showing how it wasn’t 99% the soviets involvement that won the war, like everyone likes to smugly believe. The USA kicked into high gear in 1943 with their supply lines, going through Persia, Siberia and the White Sea. Because of this, they had the capability to stage a massive offensive from 1943-44.
 
But again, it wasn’t just the USA and USSR involvement that was the major reasons why we won the war. China was a major player, holding off Japan for 8 years. India helped majorly pushing back the Japanese. Yugoslavian resistance almost singlehandedly kicked Germany out of the region. Canada and Australia were both major contenders in their respective theater of war.

Why?

Both sides were incredibly proud and thought the same tactics used in Europe would be applicable in North Africa. First thing we need to look at is Libya in 1942. There are no railways, there are things barely considered "roads". So essentially, if you went too far too fast, your logistics would be fucked. Guess what? They did exactly this. Lets push halfway into Libya. LOL O FUK WE'RE OUTTA SUPPLIES. Then the Germans being as cocky as they were, decided to do the same thing. They went back and forth until the US invaded Vichy French Africa, which caused the Germans to panic and get the hell out of there. The commanders in this campaign on both sides were incredibly incompetent but are praised for it.

There was no tactics except for "wait until the enemy pushes so far they run out of supplies so we can do the same exact thing, flawless plan". Overall, this theater is a fucking joke until the US got involved.
