#2 Weekly Sales Thread (let's pretend this will be a weekly thing)

Hey guys, this is the generic text for a possible series of threads featuring weekly sales to keep an eye on. The gist of this thread is to point out shit that is on sale for the financially disadvantaged of us. I will focus on games because really who cares about the rest, but sometimes there are critical book or movie sales that might be interesting to buy.

This thread is meant for the sharing of sweet, tasty cheap stuff. Keep the more in-depth games discussion to the "What Are You Playing This Month" thread. I don't want the threads to become redundant, and this weekly sales thing will only continue if you guys show any interest in it - if not, I'll just can it.

Anyway, if you know something, share it itt.

The threads are weekly because the steam sales are weekly.

Possible sources of items on sale:

http://store.steampowered.com/
https://www.gog.com/
http://www.greenmangaming.com/
https://www.humblebundle.com

Picks from the previous thread:

Nintendo Humble Bundle

My picks:

GoG is having a Bundle-off! So many games.
Kerbal Space Program is 30% off on Humble Bundle Store. It's a stupid game where you try to make a spaceship to get to the moon. It allows for some incredibly inventive designs.
Alien Isolation is 75% off on HBS. I never played this game because I'm not sure my laptop can handle it. They say it's a good, scary game. However, it came after Colonial Marines, and everything after Colonial Marines would look good in comparison. There is also a bunch of DLC for this game on sale for 75%.
Gratuitous Space Battles is 80% off on HBS. That's like $2. Ever want to stare at ships destroying eachother? That's all you do in the actual gameplay. But you can custom-design your ships, though!
Alien vs Predator Collection is 75% off on HBS. Classic fps. Not sure how well it aged, tbh.
F.E.A.R. Collection is 75% off on Steam. I might buy these.
A truckload of Painkiller games, 80% off on Steam. Another classic fps.
System Shock pack, including both games, (66% and 75%). System Shock 2 is videogame history and you MUST play it if you're a gamerTM. Warning: they didn't age very well.

god damn i love this series. 1.1 came out recently and there's a bit of an issue with bugs, but they have a patch planned for the end of this week to fix it

i've played this game for 100+ hours, been to a bunch of different planets. there's not really much of a "story" but there is a campaign mode that adds limits to your funds/equipment/weight of your ship, and adds contracts to get you more money/science/reputation.

money is money, gets you to build ships and upgrade your buildings which remove limits (like being able to EVA in space, how big your rocket can be, ect)

science is gained through doing experiments, which allows you to delve deeper into the tech tree and get better rocket/plane parts, along with more materials to do science.

reputation is used to find better contracts for you. as you do missions and get to different celestial bodies you will gain rep and then more contracts related to those planets/moons will arrive, along with similarly challenging contracts for other planets

ultimately it's a self-motivating game, you'll have to be the one to build the rocket, fly it there and get the science. there's a lot of mods that can automate a lot of the flying, and mods that make the game look gorgeous. there's also a lot of parts mods and mods that let you attach things with your kerbal in space.

it's a complicated game. it's tutorial is... ok, but reading stuff about it will definitely help you enjoy it. it's absolutely a great time sink, and it's rewarding to finally land on other planets, get a shit ton of science and fly it back home.
