hi guys

some time ago we had a ventrilo server, where youd go and sit and chat with folks. that went through a few iterations but now its kinda gone. theres a new program called "discord" that we are using. it's intended for video games, but its pretty good for sitting too- you can even tell when a person is "on" but not present (they get marked as afk after a bit) so you know if anyone will even respond if you come in

the interface is a little weird, there are memes, and it has had some crashes/outages/weird behavior but its pretty neat otherwise. if you want to join, go download the program here and then use this link  to connect (somehow. its new i dont remember). you can also click on it to open in a browser i think? i dont know. when i first used it i could even use it in a browser, casually. you can also make an account if you want your own picture and so on. the account is universal, not just for this one server.

you can talk with a microphone, or type. theres an integrated chat and stuff

im usually present during the day (east coast time) at work, where i can type but i dont talk until the evening when i get off work. the other guys are on and off, but our most active times are probably later at night (7-10pm EST)

I've been using discord for some months now and I've never had a problem with it, aside from the occasional push-to-talk being on the fritz.

its funny because we were playing hots with a full group for the first time in a very long time, and that was the ONE time it cut out for a half hour or so. of all the days and nights, it picked then to do it

he is on a mac, 10.10 and mavericks are OS versions, VM means virtual machine (used to pretend youre on another OS)
