It seems they've removed hollowing from the game? You get a HP boost after killing a boss until your next death. You can use an ember (like an effigy) to rekindle yourself if you die. I think???

ok so i played this game for a while
DS3 feels like a culmination of all of FromSoft's best ideas and designs from their previous game. you have an introductory area that shows you the ropes and a boss fight, but its layout is nicely thought out and the area is very pretty. i've noticed in this game there's lots of super hard enemies scattered throughout the game (I've come across 4 in the 2 hours I've played), but they're never directly in your path, they often come from exploring too much. I like that, but i haven't killed any of them. one's a super dick move, though. Combat feels like Dark Souls 1 - The enemies have some tracking on you, but they dont have ball baring swivel feet like they did in 2. Backstabs and Repostes feel good and how they used to be, and THE KICK IS BACK. When you two hand a weapon (or if you have a specialized shield) you can hold L2/LT to get into a "stance" which allows for some different moves with your weapon. Often, these moves help break enemies hiding behind shields or allow you do use rushing moves. These stance attacks use your magic, however. Leveling wise, they used a lot of how Dark Souls 2 did it: Endurance and Vigor are back, with one leveling only your Stamina, one leveling your equip load. As long as you're under 75% of your max equip weight, you'll do fast rolls. It's nice. You can equip 4 rings again, and they also have weight and durability. Speaking of Durability, they did away with the paper mache weapons from DS2 and now you need to get your weapons repaired at the blacksmith or with repair powder. I'm glad they reverted back, the durability in DS2 was horseshit. Instead of dying and becoming a zombie, now you're always "human looking," but killing bosses and finding Embers give you a health boost, which lasts until you die. With this boost, your character actually has cracks of fire and embers fly off of your armor. I really like that touch, and makes it so you really feel it as a boon instead of "oh fuck, I died and now I'm weaker." Design for the levels so far is fantastic. I'm basically in a combination of Demon's Souls "Castle Bolitaria" and DS1's "Undead Burg" for the first area - the lighting is bright, which is nice for now. I'm just at the first REAL boss, but it was 2am and I needed to sleep. I'll tackle that tonight. Again, I've only played 2 hours so far, but I really feel like this is the Dark Souls I've been waiting for.

not really much of one. there's slight gameplay and design tweeks, but for the most part they are similar. each entry (except for DS2 imo) has been a step in evolution, rather than redefining.

I've never played any of them, but every time I see a gif of a fucking skeleton doing a jumping spin and knocking a dude off a bridge, I laugh my fucking ass off, so I've been considering picking up DS3 to be that guy.

i think if you get it on steam or xb1 there's a bundle that comes with DS1 for free or some shit. may have just been a preorder bonus.
