is it unreasonable for me to suggest that all women arm themselves? some sort of weapon or attack deterrent should be mandatory
like, im proud to not be a sexual aggressor but im smart and actually have a conscience (to an extent), education should supplement this course of action as well. im not condoning or acceptibg rape of any form, its not "boys will be boys!" but unfortunately "rapists gonna rape" is a terrible reality
if those fuckers know they'll prob be shot or have their dick cut off, it might prevent some cases

That approach sort of moves the responsibility onto women even though it would be ideal to be able to defend ourselves. The issue is not rapists will rape though the issue is a very big percentage of men abuse and assault and it's a very big fucking problem

I say kind of, for two big reasons
the first is that arming yourself =/= being able to defend yourself, the linear causation between one and the other is a big myth that I believe is fueled by fiction works. sometimes being armed is a good thing, but some other times it results in an escalation of violence. I'm sure there was a study recently on how having a gun increases the probability of getting shot. assaulters may overpower you before you can reach your weapon and then use your own weapon against you, for example, or react even more violently from having a weapon branded at them
self-defense, on the other hand, is nothing but a net positive, I'm of the opinion that everyone should be taught self-defense in school
the second, and more important notion, is that these women weren't being harassed out of being phyisically incapable of defending themselves, but because there was a power imbalance between them and the attacker that made any reaction by them moot. they can't retaliate because they have lawyers, they can't tell anyone because they hold your career in their hands and even if you come out despite all of this, their fanbase and network of bootlickers will make sure to discredit you at every turn. it's this sense of impunity that was creating the breeding ground for abusers to thrive, not women's theoretical capacity to defend themselves
there's no ammount of arming yourself that can protect you against this, which is why I think it's the state's responsibility to build mechanisms for victims to safely protect themselves, like a bureau for sexual harassment claims, which will monitor possible retaliations and career impediments arising from denouncing harassment. something like that.

there was one of them, i dont remember who, that had one single woman accusing him of rape this one time in the 80's, and he came out to say that he didn't understand, as to him she had vry clearly consented
it's the only case where I was like "huh" - not "huh, she might be lying" but "huh, I wonder if he really didn't understand" or somethign
the issue here is that everytime there's an accusation and you try to give them the benefit of the doubt, suddenly three or five other unrelated women pop out of the woodwork and say the same thing. then it becomes a pattern, and when there's a pattern you can hardly call it a witchhunt
I guess if they do it once they'll do it again? it's the repeated nature of these behaviours that stands out so much to me. all accusations with the exception of that one first case that i cant remember who have been repeated by several women
so I guess when it starts boiling down to hearsay or "that one time he was kinda gross to me" the scenario will change, but so far that doesnt seem to be the case
