Barthes says that there's no good reason to bind art and author together, and I pretty much agree with him. If the art is good, it deserves to be praised. If it's sexist or racist it's not good art. And if the artist is a rapist, just punish him. The reason your art professors shook the guy's hand is because they're spinelessly playing a social game and unfortunately society doesn't always take away status from rapists. You wouldn't say Aristotle's arguments concerning potentiality are invalid because he's a slave owning sexist, and this is just about the same case.

anyway it’s fine to separate art from the artist so long as you vocally condemn and don’t financially support the artist but this really only applies to like, music and MAYBE film. For like a dude who made his career on standup? Naaahhhh idk about thaaaat one.
anyway i did try to listen to brand new still since I’ve loved them for so long and it makes me feel sick. I am not at all exaggerating when I say this is making me pretty severely depressed

I really can't understand what compels you to make this about race. You sound like one of those alt-righters who emphasize the link between sexual abuse and Jewish hollywood.
Takei is asian, Bill Cosby is black, CK is partly Mexican/Jewish, Woody Allen is Jewish and so are Toback and Weinstein. Ratner is partly Jewish and Cuban.
Do some white men commit sexual assaults sometimes? I'm sure of it. Do we really have to make everything about race? No effing way.
Also, art is not a field where you "make room" artificially. Condemning art made by "rapist and racist white men" doesn't magically bring saints and *diversity* in the spotlight. But I'd prefer if you addressed my first point, I'm genuinely interested in understanding your thought process.
